Faith Promise Giving

Faith Promise Giving has been a major part of New Love in Christ Church since it's beginning.  Each year, new stories from our congregation give testimony to how God provides in miraculous ways for the support of Missions.  We challenge and encourage you to practice Faith Promise Giving in your church as we have seen how God can and will use your commitment to bless others.

The Scriptural Basis for Faith Promise Giving:
"And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.  Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.  For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.  And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will."  (2 Cor 8:1-5 NIV)

The Rationale For Practicing Faith Promise Giving:

  • We believe that "To Love and Not Give" is an impossibility...Loving and Giving go hand in hand like living and breathing.
  • We believe that Calvary (Jesus death on the cross and subsequent resurrection) was not the end of God's expression of His love towards us, and that we as God's children become the means by which God continues to express His love to
    the rest of the world.

The Source of Our Faith Promise Giving:
Q. Where do we get that which we give to the rest of the world?
A. We must become as children, ask of God, and then give to the rest of the world.

Q. Isn't Faith Promise Giving the same as Pledging?
A. No.  We believe that we are indebted to God such that we could never "pay the debt off".  Faith Promise Giving is not an agreement to pay a specific amount on a regular basis.  It is trusting God to provide us with the means to give above and beyond our tithing.

Q. Isn't Faith Promise Giving really just a fancy name for the church's missions budget?
A. No.  No money is alloted for Missions from our general funds.  Missions is supported entirely on Faith Promise Giving.

Q
. Where does the money come from?
A. The money for Faith Promise Giving usually comes in one of the following ways...

  • Receive money from a totally unexpected source, such as a gift, an unexpected Tax refund, or even an overpayment of an old debt.
  • Money that has been doing one thing that is now freed up to do something else.  Money that was used towards another debt or commitment that is now available to use towards Faith Promise Giving.
  • Payment realized from some talent, skill or ability.
  • Money saved through sacrificial living - choices between what is needed versus what is wanted, or delaying purchases of unnecessary items.

We would like to thank Dr. Virgil Mabray for helping us define the practice of Faith Promise Giving.
