Children Are a Gift
   by Jeff Smothers, Executive Pastor

Did anything great happen for you for mother’s day or father’s day? Did you have some time over the past 2 months to reflect on how incredible it is to be a parent? While parenting brings many challenges and struggles, it is also filled with amazing rewards.

In fact, the Bible tells us that children are a gift from God (see Psalm 127:3). Most parents love their children and want them to have the best in life.

If that’s your desire for your children, have you ever stopped to think: What is the greatest gift that I could give my children?

I think that the greatest gift you could give them is to help them learn to love the God who gave them to you and to have a strong friendship with God. To do that, I’d like to challenge you to commit to:

  • Pursuing intimacy with God as your highest priority
  • Continuing to pray daily for them
  • Loving them unconditionally
  • Setting an example for them in your speech, your lives, your love, your faith, and your purity
  • Integrating faith into all of life and using teachable moments to show them how faith applies to everything

Over the next few months, we’ll look at 3 more gifts that we can give our children:

  • The gift of prayer
  • The gift of love
  • The gift of character
